Fireworks- recording fireworks is really strange. There are two distinct things going on with fireworks- the sound of the explosion, and the powerful physical impact our bodies feel when all that sound energy reaches us. Thing is, the mics don’t have any way of capturing that physical impact; they can only record the pop sound of the initial explosion. So what ends up on tape? honestly, it doesn’t sound much different than popping popcorn in your kitchen. Even with my good mics, i think i had to boost the low end a little bit in this recording to make it actually sound more like fireworks than popcorn. But judge for yourself. In broekhuizen, near arcen, lies the old ferry named grubbenvorst, dying on the river maas. It has been replaced by a newer one. The old one lies rotting away some hundred metres away from its old trajectory. It was very windy that day and the carcass of the ship was mildly rocking back and forth resulting in this beautiful creaking. The occasional thud is the boat hitting the construction it is lying in. This recording was made with a zoom h2n on 4 channel mode. It was then further edited and processed using reaper. It was recorded on april 3rd 2018. The zoom was protected by a rycote windshield and my own cap as an extra windbreaker.

The sales crew are a merry lot, bantering loudly with the tourists of different nations that are absolutely cramming the place. Lots of multinational voices can be heard, men, women and children talking loudly and all at once. What a storm last night! it was already dark outside as i saw lighting in the distance. Just having some fun with the 6 inches of snow that we received. The first part of this is me walking/breaking some ice that had formed in a low area and then me walking on snow, which has a frosty glaze on top of it. Recorded with the handy/zoom h-4n recorder using its built-in microphones. The built-in microphones can be adjusted to pick up sound from 90 degrees around the microphones to 180 degrees. For this recording, i had them on 180 degrees. *note, you will also -- if you listen carefully -- hear a male robin singing in a tree. Pretty unique combination - the snow and ice being crunched with the typical sound of spring in background. He must have been one tough bird!.

Pretty steady rain for most of the track as you hear the hum from the morning commuters in their cars increase in the distant background. It was a very cold and windy day when i visited the mile high swinging bridge at the top of grandfather mountain. Unfortunately, i did not have a windscreen, so there is a bit of noise in the recording of the "singing" bridge. The reason i say "singing" is that the high winds were blowing through the 228-foot long suspension bridge bars making a haunting sort of song. It is considered the highest suspension footbridge in north america at just over a mile high.

Lyrebird is a ground dwelling bird that lives in the australian bush and is very clever at mimicking sounds. This particular bird happens to sound like a science fiction movie! i removed much of the background noise, and lightly processed it with a phase effect.
